Introduction

This guide describes usage of “QuoEdit's Menu”, a utility to edit menus of the QuoEdit. The utility is often called “the customizer” in this guide. The customizer is included in Miscellaneous folder.

Required applications

The customizer requires two applications, that is, the QuoEdit and a utility called AeFile. But you don’t need to prepare them as you already have the both in the QuoEdit’s folder. The following is just a brief notation about them.

To edit the menus of the QuoEdit, the customizer communicates with the QuoEdit via a way called Apple event. If the QuoEdit is not running, the customizer launches the QuoEdit automatically when it needs to communicate. But if the launch failed (depending on the environment), launch the QuoEdit first before using the customizer.

The customizer also uses another utility AeFile (included in the Miscellaneous folder) via Apple event to choose a file or folder. Note that if you moved the utility to other folder, the customizer might fail in showing the file dialog box to choose a file or folder, though it is supposed to be OK. In that case, put the AeFile into the same folder as the QuoEdit's Menu again.

Special font

On system earlier than Mac OS 8, the customizer uses a special font named “.Keyboard” (if available) to draw glyphs of modifier keys in the key assignments. The “.Keyboard” font is never listed in Font menus and is included in “_Keyboard” or “-Keyboard” font suitcase that is included in Appearance Manager SDK. Once check the following if your computer runs system earlier than Mac OS 8.



◊	If Appearance Manager is not installed on your system, install “_Keyboard” font suitcase included in Miscellaneous folder in the QuoEdit’s folder*.
◊	If Appearance Manager 1.0.2 or earlier is already installed on your system, it is recommended to update it to 1.0.3 or higher**. The Appearance SDK 1.0.3 includes the font suitcase “-Keyboard” and the 1.0.4 includes “_Keyboard”. Either font suitcase would be OK to draw the modifier key glyphs.
◊	If Appearance Manager 1.0.3 or higher including the proper font suitcase is present on your computer (or if your computer runs Mac OS 8 or later), you have to do nothing.




*	“_Keyboard” is copyrighted by Apple Computer.
**	You can download the Appearance Manager SDK from Apple Computer’s site. If you are going to install the Appearance Manager, it is recommended to read the included README file closely before installing.
